Coming up on December 21st, from the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, unified WBA/WBO/WBC and lineal world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will have an immediate rematch against former world champion Tyson Fury.
This fight will be streamed DAZN P-P-V.
Three undefeated heavyweights, each of whom had a legitimate claim to call himself heavyweight champion. It was an exciting time for the heavyweight division, and the expectation was that Joshua, Wilder, and Fury would all have a bunch of matches between the three of them. But that didn’t happen. Fury and Wilder had their epic era-defining trilogy, and that was it. To date, AJ has not fought the other two.
In recent years, AJ and Wilder have fallen off the radar, now both clearly outside the Top 3 where they stood for so long. In that sense, Tyson Fury is the last man standing from his era. Usyk has since emerged as a heavyweight force, but he was not a true contemporary of the other three, where Usyk spent the majority of the Fury-Joshua-Wilder era as a cruiserweight.
Fury himself ushered in the new era, when he beat long reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko back in November 2015, which officially marked the end of the Klitschko Era (which lasted approximately from 2004 until the night Fury dethroned Wladimir).
Will a Fury victory allow the era to live to see another day? Or will Usyk put the final nail in the coffin?
This edition of Rummy’s Corner will provide a quick look at the post-Klitschko era, and a look ahead to the December 21st rematch between the two best heavyweights in the world today – Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. Please watch and enjoy the video for one man’s opinion. This is Rummy’s Corner (produced and narrated by Geoffrey Ciani).
