Description
The Director for Distance Education will collaborate with faculty to assure high quality and successful outcomes for
distance education at Valley City State University. Duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Collaborating with faculty
    to identify, develop, explore, and implement instructional strategies that support strong online teaching and learning
  • Establishing
    quality standards for online courses and managing compliance
  • Managing faculty professional development training related to quality
    online teaching and learning
  • Remaining current on advancements in instructional design and best practices
  • Managing
    distance education programs (i.e., Prison Education Program, distance programs on other campuses, etc.)
  • Managing international
    programming (i.e., study abroad, student exchanges, recruiting international students, etc.)
  • Working with Blackboard Analytics to
    guide decision-making for curriculum planning
  • Representing VCSU at Distance Education Directors meetings, Blackboard User Group
    meetings, and other local, state, regional and national meetings 
  • Participating in NC-SARA events, managing annual enrollment,
    and responding to related requests

Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree and five years of directly
related experience (may substitute directly related work experience or education for minimum qualification requirements);
experience teaching and/or performing administrative duties in an online or distance education environment; and experience utilizing best
practices in online and/or distance education when developing and/or evaluating courses are required.

Preferred
Qualifications
A Master’s degree in instructional design, adult learning, educational leadership, or related field pertinent
to the position; five years of related work experience in higher education; experience with Blackboard LMS; demonstrated understanding of
best practices for teaching and learning in face to face, hybrid, and online formats; experience working with LMS analytics; experience
managing distance programs (i.e., PEP, international programs, remote programs); and demonstrated ability to develop and present effective
professional development training to both online and face-to-face audiences are preferred.

Compensation$68,000-$72,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
