George Kambosos Jr. Faces Daud Yordan On March 22nd In Sydney

George Kambosos Jr. will fight veteran Daud Yordan in the 10-round clash on DAZN on March 22nd in Sydney, Australia. This is the name that the former unified lightweight champion Kambosos has been talking about, and it’s disappointing.

Ring is reporting that Kambosos Jr. is taking on Yordan as his tune-up. What makes this fight look worse is that the little ‘Emperor’ Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) is expected to challenge for a world title next in the summer against IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins.

As bad as Kambosos looked in his last fight against Vasily Lomachenko last year on May 12th, you’d have to say his clash against Daud Yordan is a 50-50 affair. However, with the clash being staged in George’s hometown of Sydney, Australia, he should be okay as long as he doesn’t get knocked out again like he was against Loma.

If Yordan follows the Lomachenko blueprint of going to Kambosos’ body, he could stop him. That’s how Loma dropped him twice, forcing Kamboso’s order to throw in the towel.

Kambosos’s fighting the likes of Yordan instead of a top-tier fighter suggests how far down his career has sunk. He briefly held three lightweight titles following his upset win against a ring-rusty, injured Teofimo Lopez on November 27, 2021.

Kambosos had done nothing with his career before that upset win over Teo, and he’s done nothing since, going 1-3 in his last four fights. ‘Ferocious’ or ‘Emperor’ Kamboso’s only win in the last four years is a questionable 12-round majority decision against Maxi Hughes on July 22nd, 2023.

It looked like a one-sided fight in favor of Hughes, but the judges surprisingly gave it to Kambosos. If not for that win, Kambosos would be marching into his clash against the 37-year-old Daud Yordan with a 0-4 record.

Hitchins-Kambosos still hasn’t been confirmed. If something better comes along, like a rematch with Teofimo Lopez or Devin Haney, you can bet that Kambosos will snatch it up.

37-year-old Indonesian native Yordan (43-4, 31 KOs) is a 20-year pro and has been around forever but has seldomly fought in the last seven years, making only five appearances against lesser opposition.

For boxing fans who have been following the sport for over a decade, they remember Yordan for his second-round no-contest against Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero in 2009, losses to former world champions Celestino Caballero, Chris John, Simpiwe Vetyeka, and Anthony Crolla.

Yordan’s best wins have come against Maxwell Awuku, Daniel Eduardo Brizuela, and Choi Tseveenpurev. Those were many years ago, as Yordan has done nothing much since 2016, fighting rarely and only little-known fighters.
