“I’m More Intelligent” – Fulton Confident Ahead Of Figueroa Rematch

Former WBC and WBO super bantamweight champion Stephen ‘Cool Boy Steph’ Fulton Jr (22-1, 8 KOs) says he’s more “intelligent” than WBC featherweight champ Brandon Figueroa (25-1-1, 19 KOs), and that will carry him to victory in their rematch this Saturday night on February 1st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Four years after their first fight on November 27, 2021, Fulton, 30, and Figueroa will meet for the second time on the undercard of David Benavidez vs. David Morrell. The event will be shown live on PBC on Prime Video PPV.

Fulton edged Figueroa, winning a 12-round decision in a razor-close fight. However, things have changed since then. The rematch will be at 130 rather than 122, and Fulton has been knocked out and hurt. He does not look like the same fighter he was when he beat Figueroa.

Naoya Inoue dethroned Fulton on July 25, 2023, in an eighth-round knockout in Tokyo, Japan. The power of Inoue made the fight totally one-sided. In Fulton’s last fight against Carlos Castro, he was surprisingly dropped in the fifth round and had to move and hold to survive.

Figueroa’s youth and power could give him the edge in this fight because he appeared to be hitting harder now than in the first fight. If Fulton can’t take a punch anymore, this is going to be an early night. It might be, anyway, because Figueroa has improved.

“Being a two-division world champion would mean a lot for my career and mean a lot to me. I had great preparation for this fight and everything is on track for me to be prepared on Saturday night. I’m going to be ready.

“My mindset, my body and how I’m feeling going into this ring will be different this time, but the outcome will be the same. I will be victorious and I will leave no doubters. I’m not worrying about anything but getting the win.

“We’re both going to be better this time, but I feel like I’m the better man overall. I’m more intelligent in the ring and I feel like I have a better skill set. When I utilize those things, it all lands my way.”
