IPL 2025: Shardul Thakur and Nicholas Pooran star as Delhi Capitals hammers SRH in Hyderabad

Shardul Thakur and Nicholas Pooran

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered a commanding five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. LSG chased down the 191-run target with ease, finishing the game in just 16.1 overs, thanks to a sensational knock from Nicholas Pooran and a brilliant four-wicket haul from Shardul Thakur. SRH, despite a fiery start from Travis Head, faltered in the middle overs and failed to contain LSG’s aggressive batting approach. Pooran’s explosive half-century made light work of the chase, while Thakur’s timely breakthroughs derailed SRH’s innings.

Shardul Thakur’s bowling wrecks SRH’s batting line-up

The Sunrisers started aggressively, with Head setting the tone with a quick-fire 47 off 28 balls. However, Thakur’s disciplined and effective bowling turned the tide in LSG’s favour. He dismissed Abhishek Sharma early before removing Ishan Kishan for a golden duck. His most crucial wicket came in the middle overs when he dismissed Aniket Verma, who was looking dangerous after smashing a 13-ball 36. Thakur’s ability to extract movement from the pitch and execute perfect variations kept the SRH batters under constant pressure. His spell of 4/34 ensured SRH never gained complete control despite some late hitting from Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel. The lack of a steady middle-order partnership hurt SRH, limiting them to 190/9 in their 20 overs.

Nicholas Pooran’s destructive knock seals the chase for LSG

Chasing a tricky total, LSG lost Aiden Markram early to Cummins. However, Pooran turned the game on its head with an electrifying 70 off just 26 balls. He took on the SRH bowlers with fearless hitting, smashing six fours and six towering sixes at a blistering strike rate of 269.23. His aggressive approach ensured LSG maintained a high run rate throughout the innings. Pooran was well supported by Mitchell Marsh, who anchored the innings with a 31-ball 52, adding a crucial 116-run partnership for the second wicket. Even after Pooran’s departure, David Miller (13 not out off 7) and Abdul Samad (22 not out off 8) finished the chase clinically, guiding LSG to victory with 23 balls to spare. This dominant performance reinforced LSG’s aggressive batting strategy and secured them a vital win early in the IPL 2025 campaign.
