Despite her devastation over losing her Malibu home, Paris Hilton has been working hard to help out the thousands of other people impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires — and she’s inspired her son Phoenix, who now wants to become a firefighter.
Hilton, 43, told TMZ on Monday, January 20, that the 2-year-old she shares with entrepreneur Carter Reum — the couple also share 1-year-old daughter London — was inspired after seeing the devastation in the city he calls home. “He said he wants to be a fireman,” she said. “The families, the children, the animals, it’s just been heartbreaking to see what’s happened to California.”
While many toddlers have ambitions to be firefighters, not many have witnessed firsthand the devastation that fire can cause.
Hilton has been sharing her experiences in the aftermath of the fires around the Pacific Palisades, Altadena and Malibu areas, with the animal lover confirming last week that she’s even rescued a dog named Zuzu, whose owners can no longer care for him. “We’ve just all fallen in love with him,” she said. “So we’re going to adopt him.”
Hilton is now encouraging her fans to reach out to animal shelters if they can offer a loving home to the many animals displaced by the tragedy. “As an animal lover, I am heartbroken by those who have lost their furry friends or have had to give them up due to being displaced,” she shared via Instagram on January 14. “I want to do my part and take care of Zuzu and I encourage others who are able to to reach out to their local shelter to see how they can support them!”
The singer, DJ and heiress previously shared video footage via Instagram of the wreckage of her home, alongside an emotional caption. “I’m standing here in what used to be our home, and the heartbreak is truly indescribable,” she wrote on January 10. “When I first saw the news, I was in complete shock—I couldn’t process it. But now, standing here and seeing it with my own eyes, it feels like my heart has shattered into a million pieces. This house wasn’t just a place to live— It was where we dreamed, laughed, and created the most beautiful memories as a family. It was where Phoenix’s little hands made art that I’ll cherish forever, where love and life filled every corner. To see it reduced to ashes… it’s devastating beyond words.”
“What breaks my heart even more is knowing that this isn’t just my story,” she added. “So many people have lost everything. It’s not just walls and roofs — it’s the memories that made those houses homes. It’s the photos, the keepsakes, the irreplaceable pieces of our lives. And yet, in this pain, I know I’m incredibly lucky. My loved ones, my babies, and my pets are safe. That’s the most important thing, and I’m holding onto that gratitude with everything I have. And beyond grateful to all the fire fighters, first responders and volunteers risking their lives to fight these fires.”
