Phoebe Robinson on How She Builds Social Media Community

Phoebe Robinson is getting real about why she started posting thirst trap compilations of male celebrities.

“I just was like, ‘I know I’m horny for celebs. I know I’m not the only one. So let’s build a community,’” Robinson, 40, exclusively told Us Weekly on the red carpet at “Comic Relief Live” in New York City on Monday, December 9. “And it’s been super fun doing the [hashtag] Thirsty Thursdays.”

The comedian’s posts, in which she uses the hashtag #ThotNaysh, have grabbed the attention of some high-profile actors. “Every once in a while, someone responds — like Orlando Bloom commented one time,” she said. “And I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s like, so cool.’”

According to Robinson, Bloom, 47, commented on her post by writing “a bunch of emojis talking about Lord of the Rings,” followed by heart emojis, which caused her to think, “It’s just like, ‘Oh, my God, I love you.’”

The hashtag has racked up numerous posts — and to Robinson, she never expected it to blow up the way it did.

“I was just being silly. I was like, ‘Oh, this is a fun, silly thing you could do on social media. That feels low stakes. I don’t have to worry about numbers,’” the What Men Want actress said. “I just really am just having a good time.”

Robinson’s most recent #ThotNaysh post features Jude Law and part of the caption reads: “#ThotNaysh, not since Paul Newman, have I been, like, ‘Damn, this a white man I’d curl my hair into a civil rights bayang,’ sing all five verses of ‘We Shall Overcome,’ & ask Thurgood Marshall to represent us pro boner – 😏 – so the love ‘tween me & today’s honoree can be recognized by all fifty United States.”

However, one of the Clash of the Cookbooks cohost’s wildest posts involved a former U.S. president.

Several celebrities have earned the title of “The Internet’s Boyfriend,” but some have stood out more than others throughout 2023. The slang term of endearment is used in reference to a popular male celebrity who fans obsess over online. “They stand for something good, whether that be just kindness, whether that be challenging gender norms, […]

“When I did one on Barack Obama, I tagged him in it, [and] people were like, ‘You’re nuts for tagging him in the post.’ But I had to go for it,” Robinson said. “He did not respond because he has more important things to do.”

Even though Robinson had previously interviewed Michelle Obama, that didn’t stop her from adding Barack on the tag button. “I was like, ‘You know what? If she beats me up, I deserve it. It will be fine,’” she joked.

Robinson also wants to expand her social media presence following the popular reception of her #ThirstyThursday posts, and she’s hoping to turn the hashtag into a podcast.

“I really love interviewing people. I’ve done it a lot, whether it’s podcasts or interviews with Michelle Obama on her book tour,” she told Us. “So, I want to go back to that [and] sort of highlight these fun, hot people in a really cool, interesting way.”
