Job Description

Butler University is seeking a Senior Director for Online Education
and Educational Technology (OEET) to lead and manage our efforts in online education and educational technology. The primary role of the
Senior Director is to lead two teams: 1) Digital Learning, which develops, reviews, and revises online courses and 2) Academic Partnerships,
which supports the use of educational technology to facilitate and enhance learning. In addition to providing collaborative, visionary
leadership for these teams, the Senior Director will serve as the institutional expert in online education and educational technology and
work across campus to engage faculty, staff, and academic leadership on a variety of issues such as strategy, growth, compliance, enrollment
operations, student success, marketing, and stakeholder satisfaction to ensure the success of Butler’s online programs and the appropriate
deployment of technology for teaching and learning.

This position reports to the Provost and the Associate Vice President of
Transformation. It is not a remote position, but candidates who prefer to reside in locations remote to Indianapolis may be considered.
Please note, due to the varied nature of states’ legal and administrative requirements, Butler University may not be able to offer remote
employment to candidates in all states.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Digital Learning and Academic
    Partnerships teams in a positive and collaborative manner that creates conditions for success and thriving.
  • Serve as the
    university’s expert in online education and educational technology.
  • Build and reinforce relationships between OEET and internal and
    external partners.
  • Collaborate with the colleges and other units across campus to grow online programming in ways that are viable
    and market-aligned.
  • Ensure all units accountable for the health of online programs work together and align on operational
    priorities such as enrollment, retention, and student experience.
  • Design and oversee all aspects of quality assurance for online
    education and educational technology, including assessments of course design, technology use, stakeholder satisfaction and engagement, and
    general areas for improvement.
  • Assure compliance with state and federal regulations related to online education.
  • Ensure
    faculty have the knowledge and support needed to appropriately use educational technology and create and teach online courses.
  • Stay
    abreast of developments in online education and educational technology and recommend tools and approaches to enhance the institution’s
    offerings.
  • Manage and oversee the division’s operational budget, including expenditures related to online course development,
    educational technology, and personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (certification/training
    in education technology a plus)
  • Minimum of five years working in online education and/or educational technology
  • Minimum of
    five years working in higher education
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, specifically on cross-departmental or cross-functional
    teams, projects, or initiatives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage diverse audiences
    and build relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of compliance standards related to online
    education
  • Comfortable in a dynamic startup environments that include significant amounts of autonomy
  • Passion for extended
    access to higher education and learning opportunities
  • Proficiency in a wide variety of Learning Management Systems, Microsoft
    Office, Google Suite, and other educational technology tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral
    degree
  • Project Management certification
  • Education/formal training in instructional design, curriculum development,
    educational technology, and/or leadership
  • Certification in Quality Matters (or equivalent)
  • Peer reviewed
    scholarship/publications on topics related to the position
  • Ongoing engagement with relevant professional organizations
  • Experience working in diverse environments
  • Business acumen and experience with program development, growth, enrollment
    strategies, and measures of viability
  • Evidence of sustained commitment and action towards diversity, equity, and inclusion in
    educational settings
  • Demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating inequitable outcomes, removing barriers, and creating
    inclusive conditions for individuals and communities regardless of any predictive identities
  • Experience working with students and
    colleagues from a variety of backgrounds
  • Knowledge and experience to support learners from a variety of backgrounds with strong,
    student-centered, inclusive instructional methods
