Job Summary

The Coordinator of Student Engagement is a full-time, grant funded position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates purposeful interactions with students to design individualized, student-centered educational plans that lay the foundation for student success. Accesses the academic and supportive needs of the project participants.
  • Creates, implements, and assesses program events such as conferences, workshops, lectures, meetings and educational cultural trips in an effort to meet clearly defined program objectives.
  • Maintains program files, electronic data, student records, student grades, and /or other documentation as required. Monitors academic progress, services and participation in the program.
  • Assists students in addressing academic, probationary and financial concerns and connects them with appropriate support services.
  • Conveys implications of various policies and procedures related to academic probation and suspension, dropping courses, and satisfactory academic progress.
  • Provides goal-oriented academic advising to foster informed choices in students’ educational planning and career exploration.
  • Develops tutoring schedules based on individual student needs and academic preparation.
  • Oversees collection of data and enters data related to the program services, goals and objectives in preparation for monthly reports.
  • Provides academic and financial aid counseling, coordinates opportunities for tutoring, summer internships, seminars and educational activities designed to prepare students for graduation, professional career and/or graduate school.
  • Maintains accurate participation and financial records for the Lopez Scholars program and activities.
  • Develops plans and publicity through various forms of communication, including social media.
  • Supervises and trains student tutors and/or peer mentors to promote and facilitate program.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Associate Director of Residential Living & Learning Community and community advisor to promote the success of the Lopez Scholars LCC.
  • May assist in preparation and monitoring of budgets for programs and events.
  • Attend monthly meetings with HGLF staff to provide updates on students’ academic progress and usage of student supports.
  • Develops innovative strategies to increase participation and retention of the Lopez Scholars.
  • Provides high quality customer service to Lopez Scholars participants, students, the university and the community.
  • Collaborates with Offices of Career Engagement, Housing and Residence Life, Students Success, Student Access, Financial Aid, Registrar, among others, in support of the Lopez Scholars’ academic and professional success.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience – Three years of related experience in coordinating events.

Knowledge of – Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with other. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in education, counseling, social work, higher administration or an appropriate field related to program objectives. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in staff or student supervision; budget management; program development and evaluation; reporting and compliance with federal/state regulations.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with federal TRIO programs, academic support programs, or similar programs for first generation and low-income students.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of innovative student success strategies.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams to deliver programs at a high professional level.
  • Experience providing academic advising services and college, career, financial aid and economic literacy information to students.
  • Experience conducting developmental workshops such as study skills, time management, career exploration and university degree plans.
  • Knowledge of degree requirements, college registration procedures, academic probation process, Q drops and change of curriculum. Experience with individual tutorial plans, semester schedules, and certifications

*Texas A&M University-Kingsville TRIO positions are contingent upon grant funding.

The minimum requirements are based upon PWC standards, other requirements are based upon required grant qualifications.

This position may supervise employees.
