Description
The Student Life Coordinator is expected to serve as a dynamic leader who fosters an inclusive, vibrant, and engaged campus community. This position plays a key role in cultivating strong community relations, representing the Division of Student Affairs with professionalism, approachability, and integrity. The coordinator must demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with students, colleagues, campus partners, and external stakeholders. The coordinator provides leadership in student life, orientation, student wellness programming and engagement, manages the Wellness Center, supervises student staff, and directs the PATH (Peers Advocating Towards Health) program.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Collaboration is central to this role. The coordinator will work closely with departments across the institution to design, implement, and assess co-curricular programs and initiatives that enhance the student experience. They are expected to be highly committed to the mission of the institution and to the success and well-being of all students.
As a supportive presence on campus, the Student Life Coordinator will advocate for student wellness and health, helping to ensure that student life programs and environments are student-centered, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with best practices in holistic student support.
Assist and support with student clubs and intramurals. Collaborate with other organizations and departments in creating student life engagement.
- Wellness Center Oversight:
Manage day-to-day operations of the campus Wellness Center, ensuring it is a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all students. Oversee scheduling, facility upkeep, and delivery of services and programs. - Supervision of Student Staff:
Recruit, train, and supervise student employees working in the Wellness Center. Provide mentorship, support professional development, and maintain a high standard of service and accountability - PATH Program Leadership:
Direct the PATH (Peers Advocating Towards Health) peer education program. This includes selecting and training student advocates, overseeing wellness initiatives, and coordinating peer-led outreach events. - Student Wellness & Health Initiatives:
Lead campus-wide wellness programming, including health promotion campaigns, prevention education, and partnerships with campus and community wellness providers. - Orientation Coordination:
Plan and execute new student orientation programs with a focus on belonging, student engagement, and holistic wellness. - Case Management and Student Support:
Serve as a non-clinical case manager on the University’s BIT/CARE team, coordinating support and follow-up for students in need of assistance or intervention. - Grant Support:
Assist in the implementation and oversight of the Rape Prevention Education (RPE) grant, including educational programming, awareness campaigns, and reporting requirements. - Recreational and Fitness Programming:
Design and implement ongoing recreational activities, fitness classes, and outdoor experiences that contribute to health and community building. - Student Organization Collaboration:
Work closely with ASUMW (student government), student clubs, and campus organizations to co-sponsor events, foster leadership development, and enhance campus engagement. - Institutional Collaboration and Leadership:
Serve as a liaison between Student Affairs and campus departments. Contribute to strategic planning around student engagement, retention, and wellness
Management and Supervision of Others
The Student Life Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, training, and evaluation of student employees assigned to the Wellness Center. The coordinator also provides leadership and direction to students involved in the PATH (Peers Advocating Towards Health) peer education program. This includes day-to-day oversight, professional development, and ensuring high-quality service delivery that aligns with the University’s mission and wellness priorities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated effectiveness and leadership in wellness and engagement program development.
- Strong knowledge of health promotion, student development theory, and wellness best practices.
- Ability to coordinate health-focused services and manage a student-centered facility.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Competence in inclusive program design and support of diverse student populations.
- Capacity to support crisis response and student support services.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across departments and external partners
- Completed Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in student wellness, engagement, or co-curricular program management.
- Experience supervising or mentoring student staff or peer educators.
- Experience in wellness center management, peer education programming, and grant support.
- Knowledge of behavioral intervention processes and case management in a campus setting.
