Spider-Man’s been locked down to movies for years now, and it’s been almost as long since he headlined a cartoon. The new series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (formerly Spider-Man: Freshman Year) brings the webhead back to the world of TV, but Marvel’s been pretty cagey with showing it since Comic-Con two years ago. Fortunately, we now have our first, full look up the upcoming series.
If you’ve watched the MCU Spider-Man movies and felt that he’s needed to have some smaller adventures, it seems Friendly Neighborhood has got you covered. Set in an alternate reality, this iteration of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) is just starting out as Spider-Man. He’s also got a new set of amazing friends in Harry Osborn, Nico Minoru (Grace Song), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox). And the biggest change of all? Instead of Tony Stark, his surrogate daddy is Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo), who decides to help Peter reach his full heroic potential by providing some new suits for him to swing in.
Other than that, it looks like we’re in default Spider-Man cartoon mode: Peter balances being a high schooler with a street hero who fights bad guys and tries to look out for the neighborhood. We’ll see what else this new show has to offer when Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to swings onto Disney+ on January 29, 2025.
